B. Lin Murphy, Founder
B. Lin Murphy, J.D., PMP, founded Unity Schooling to create a customized educational program for her daughter who attends virtual school. Hoping to enhance her daughter's education with additional practical and relevant programming, she developed the Unity Schooling program to create a community for similarly-situated students. Her vision is to encourage "learning undefined" by text books and syllabi and to promote "growth outside the lines" that linear curriculums might impose. While crafting the program's activities, embracing history is the focus, but grounding learners to prepare for future is the ultimate purpose.
A law-trained program manager and entrepreneur, B. Lin is an advocate for unbridled innovation and believes that creative problem-solving is the linchpin of active parenting. Ensuring that a bright future remains within a child's reach requires pivoting and reconfiguring on a constant basis.
"A student's primary supporters must remain observant and agile to ensure that their unique needs are identified and met. Traditional curriculums are often one-size-fits-all and should be accompanied by customized educational opportunities. Experiential learning is the crux of skill development and equips students with the confidence needed to pursue challenging lessons. Well-equipped students tend to have an insatiable appetite for continued learning."
B. Lin credits her resilience and ability to think critically to the fervent support and advocacy of her parents. "Parents and guardians are a child's first and most critical supporters. We have to use the information and tools available to guide them as they navigate unchartered territory," she says.
Unity Schooling's mission is to help students obtain practical skills and a deep understanding of local communities as future contributors to the global community. B. Lin has a strong background in new product development and aspires to train students to emphatically sow seeds of innovation and bring good ideas to life.
"Developing an idea from scratch should not be a foreign concept to anyone. My goal is to ensure that students feel prepared to build anything they believe the world needs - from ground up," B. Lin says.
Born and raised in the Chicago area, B. Lin left her hometown to attend Florida A&M University and graduated in 2008 with a degree in business administration. She worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in finance and accounting roles while attending law school at Indiana University's Robert H. McKinney School of Law. In 2016, B. Lin moved to Los Angeles with her family. She has since worked as a consultant for leading corporations and small businesses in finance, new product development, and project management.
